Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 4 Goulburn War Memorial Museum Vintage WWI Enfi eld rifl e donated for ANZAC exhibition SSAA NSW is proud and excited to donate a Lee Enfi eld No.1 Mk. 3 1916 rifl e to the Goulburn War Memorial Museum for their special 100 years of ANZAC display. The rifl e will be used in a special display which showcases a life-size model of a self-fi ring rifl e also known as the 'drip-rifl e'. The display was inspired by a painting from SSAA NSW Goulburn Branch President Ken Kenchington which shows brave ANZAC soldiers using the 'drip-rifl e'. The drip-rifl e was invented during the Gallipoli campaign in the First World War by Australian solider William Charles Scurry MC, DCM. The unique invention saved many lives during the campaign as it allowed ANZAC soldiers to escape the trenches while fi re was maintained by these special drip-rifl es which fi red automatically using the old cans and the weight of dripping water. This inspiring tale of ANZAC heroism and ingenuity is currently on display at the Goulburn War Memorial Museum located on Memorial Drive in Goulburn. The War Memorial was opened in 1925 as a lasting tribute to the gallant men of Goulburn and district who served in WWI. The Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays, public holidays and most school holidays from 10am to 4pm. It is also open most Wednesdays from 9am to 2pm and other times by appointment.
